It’s no big secret and it’s not new, nothing’s hotter than
you being you! SMILES! Ok, don’t be annoyed at this cliché until you’ve tried
it! Especially if you are someone who has always looked to trends and other
people, magazines, and girlfriends to help you determine your style. Go ahead and ask your future husband why he’s marrying
you. . . he’s going to say “because he loves YOU!” So instead of looking
at the wedding industry trends while planning a day that celebrates you, stick to your style, your tastes,
and what you like. Trust us, you’ll be much happier, more comfortable and more
confident and there is nothing sexier than that!
If you have trouble channeling your inner self so that it
shows on the outer you, we’ve got some suggestions for you. Of course, you can
always hire a planner to assist you in making decisions or offering suggestions
on things you might like.
The Setting: Not Any Ole Place Will Do
When selecting a location for your wedding make it personal.
This doesn’t mean you have to have it in your backyard either! If you and your fiancé
love hiking together, for example, you might look for a venue that has an
outdoor forest-like setting, or if permitted to, you could get married at your
favorite hiking spot! If you met at college and have great memories there, find
out if the school offers rental facilities or would allow weddings on the grounds
during non-academic seasons(so many colleges have gorgeous campuses and even
chapels if that interests you). Just some examples. . . choose what fits you!
The Attire: Avoid the Strapless Faux Paux
Glitzy and glamorous gowns are not required Cinderella! And
your fiancé will be happy to hear that tails and penguin suits aren’t either!
So the challenge is to find something that expresses your personal style, is
appropriate for the season and setting, feels comfortable(please don’t go
strapless if you’re going to be tugging at your top all night!), and is
flattering to your body—cuz unfortunately what we like doesn’t always look good
on us! It helps to shop for your dress with someone who knows you well and will
be honest with you. ;) If you like the vintage look, try shopping at a thrift
store. If you like the hippy/bohemian look search for a dress that has those
elements-off the shoulder, ruffles, braided embellishments. And suggest suits
or suspenders, vests, bowties, specific colors etc. for your fiancé that he
likes and that complement your ensemble. Also, wear comfy shoes, or at least
have some to change into for dancing the night away!
The Décor: Decisions, decisions, decisions!
Once you know where your wedding will take place it will be
a lot easier to select your décor because many sites have restrictions on what
is allowed and what is included with your rental fee. Don’t go getting crazy on
your Pinterest boards selecting table settings and linens, china and flatware
because the venue might have options for you to choose from. Then you can make
other plans from that starting point. Décor doesn’t have to be over-the-top
either. Lighting makes a huge difference in setting the mood for an event, as
does the way you set up the tables and areas for socializing. So if grand
crystal chandeliers in a ballroom with sky high ceilings aren’t your thing, maybe
you might like some hay bales covered with quilts, glowing lanterns, fluffy
pillows and twinkle lights strung from the trees. At VW we love intimate spaces
and furniture outdoors and uplights and
a nice soft glow . . . ohh! And if you’ve just got an empty banquet hall to
work with, bring in your own personal touches in the centerpiece selection;
cake, gift, guest book, head table details; and of course the display of your
couple’s photos, family photos, or heirlooms that are meaningful to you.
Hope this helps to get you started. Much love to you from
VW!
